Care
Partner of the Month
November 2005-April 2006
Mary Ida Vandross
Philadelphia, PA
Our feature Care Partner, Mary Ida Vandross, returns to the spotlight
from the Gallery archives. Mrs. Vandross lost the last of her children
on July 1, 2005. His name was Luther. Her care for him was obvious.
She brought him into the world; but she also watched him leave it.
We marvel at how amazing she is as a care partner and proudly salute
her for a second time.
Hazella says:
"There's an
angel in our midst. One chosen by God to portray just how caring a
partner can be. Her quiet yet powerful spirit immediately covers you
with love whether she's known you for years or you've only just met.
Kindness radiates from her soul and love pours forth from her heart.
When I began working with her son - Ronnie, as she calls him -- I
would ask about his mother from time to time purely out of courtesy.
He would always respond in superlatives like, "She's FABULOUS!"
or DIVINE or SPLENDID or INCREDIBLE
As she and I began to spend
more time together I came to understand the meaning behind his words.
I found her to be all those things and more. Despite the numerous
losses, disappointments, heartaches and sadness that have been a part
of her life, she's continued to be a beacon of light and hope in the
lives of others. Her words ring with truth, wisdom and encouragement,
carefully laying the foundation for joyful todays and happy tomorrows.
Her sharp wit and humor only intensify the one-of-a kind experience
of sharing with the one we call Lady V.
Regardless of her own
health challenges, she has been faithful to her family and friends
to the end. No one is a stranger and everyone is welcome to her
special world. There is unmatched strength and conviction in her
belief and it can never be compromised. Prayer and meditation are
a constant in the fabric of her being and what a wonderful tapestry
she's created! When asked how she's withstood trial after trial,
she simply answers, "Belief is the key -- belief in God's healing
power and His divine plan for His children."
How fortunate we are to have the mighty presence of this anointed
woman. As she evangelizes, she offers us a voice of hope that will
resound from generation to generation.
God creates each of us
with a different purpose. That's what makes us unique. Stroke of
Hope recognizes the divine favor we walk in with Mary Ida as an
advocate and guide. She is uniquely qualified to teach us all what
it means to live life to the fullest without regrets and how to
be a champion for sharing in the care. There's only one like her.
