Care Partner of the Month July/August

Maxine Smith-Pendarvis
Mount Vernon, NY

She’s beautiful and elegant, stately in her demeanor but quiet and patient. She’s learning the role of double Care Partner to her new husband and his twin brother. Maxine’s life took a sudden unexpected turn, but she’s moving forward without regrets. She finds the positive in everything.

Maxine says:

“What a difference a day makes, twenty four little hours”. It took the life-threatening event of my husband’s stroke to make me realize the life-changing reality of those words. Within twenty-four hours, our plans, dreams and life changed drastically. I know, without a doubt, our life, as we knew it would never be the same for either Eugene (Gene) or myself.

Upon reflecting over the past few months, I cannot say if it changed my life for better or worse. It’s just so awfully different. To many it may appear worse. However, because I know I could not have maintained the peace I experienced throughout this experience with my own strength, I have developed a deep abiding faith in the power of God in my life. I have seen throughout Gene’s setbacks not to judge by appearances for I have seen through his remarkable recovery how prayer truly changes things. I know with a deep faith, that there is good in every situation, yes, even this one.
