Ted Levy
Jupiter, Florida

This is a man whose love runs deep, whose values are high and whose commitment is eternal. He’s been refined by a fire that seems impossible to bear… a fantasy life that slowly crumbled into a living nightmare. But he continues to persevere and embrace the passion of life from moment to moment.

(The following is an excerpt from Ted’s story)

Ted says:

“Unequivocally, Helaine is the most beautiful person I’ve ever known. We’ve been in love since the first time we saw each other 36 years ago. She was a concert quality violinist and an experienced gemologist. We owned a beautiful upscale jewelry store on a major thoroughfare in New Jersey. Everyone knew us, and of course everyone loved Helaine. God did everything right when He made her. Unfortunately, He only made one!

My heart broke forever on July 9, 1995…
It was 7:30 A.M. when Helaine started mumbling and thrashing about in the bed as though she was having a bad dream. She tried to get up, but she unable and also lost her ability to communicate coherently. She just mumbled and gurgled. I didn’t know what was happening…I called 911.

The ambulance didn’t speed to the hospital with the siren blasting like in the movies. The emergency room doctors didn’t seem to hurry. One doctor said, “She’s having a stroke, it just has to run its course, there’s nothing that can be done!” I was frantic and completely confused. I didn’t understand why there was nothing to be done for a stroke in progress. Some of the emergency personnel acted so matter of fact while I nervously and frantically asked a million questions. I was sick with fear, panic and grief. It was difficult to breathe and my head was pounding.

Helaine was in a coma, lifeless, near death. The doctors weren’t sure if she would make it. She was 51 years old at the time. She did not drink or smoke. She had a quiet disposition and her blood pressure was always enviably low. She had just been to the doctor recently for a check up. He obviously didn’t do a thorough job! I asked God, why has this happened?
