Care
Partner of the Month
Dr.
Rosie I. Richmond-Whalum
Memphis, TN
Dr.
Rosie Richmond Whalum is a general dentist with a degree from Washington
University in St. Louis and the University of Tennessee. She has been
in private practice in her hometown of Memphis, TN for 21 years. She's
been married for 9 years.
Rosie says:
"As a care partner to a multiple stroke survivor, I take one
day at a time. Some days I manage to juggle all "my hats"
successfully, while other days are a struggle. However, I keep the
faith and hope alive by focusing on my health (physically, mentally
and spiritually). I pray that my husband can draw strength from me.
I am also thankful to have a very good support group of friends and
family who help out and allow me to "breathe". We could
not make it without their help."
She chose to spend her life with someone who has been described as
"BIGGER THAN LIFE". With a professional career of her own
she really didn't "need" a man - she chose to be with him.
The same love that brought them together as independently successful
adults is the glue that holds them fast even through this tumultuous
period of mini-strokes, rehabilitation and diabetes management.
She carries herself with the grace of a swan, gently guiding without
impatience. Pacing and measuring have become a fine art for her and
she succeeds more than she fails. However, the beauty of it all is
that even though she is quite knowledgeable about medicine in her
own right, she is open to other opinions, alternative methods and
most of all - God's will. |
