Stroke Survivor of the Month

Lawrence Brown
Houston, TX

The Texas Institute for Research and Rehabilitation (TIRR) offers a state of the art gymnasium, which proved to be very beneficial for several years. I attended three times a week yearly.

I now drive and have had the opportunity to serve as a lecturer and illustrator to physical therapy students at Texas Women University for the past six years. I go to the golf driving range to practice putting and driving and participate in monthly stroke support meetings. My wife, who is my biggest supporter, and I attend the annual Stroke Survival Conference and enjoy membership in the Houston Chapter of the Stroke of Hope Foundation whose goal is to educate the public on strokes as well as the risks.

Because I was always a "doer", my philosophy from day one has been that it is not that you can't perform a feat, you must figure out a NEW way of accomplishing it. That is what has made me as independent as I am now.

My final message is to keep a positive attitude and laugh. It is an essential part of the healing process."
