The Citizens Stamp Advisory Committee receives about 40,000
requests for commemorative stamps every year. The committee selects
about 30 requests for future consideration. My proposal for a
stroke awareness stamp is among the few that have made the first
cut. Now what's needed is an outpouring of letters supporting
a stroke stamp.
I've traveled to Washington D.C. and met with postal service
officials. I've also drafted a sample letter that I distribute
through local hospitals and stroke centers. I've written letters
to President Bush and Pope John Paul II asking for endorsements.
Sometimes I feel like I'm on a one-man crusade, but I'm just trying
to help educate people about how they can lower their risk for
stroke or recognize the signs of a stroke.
If you'd like to support the Commemorative Stamp for Stroke Awareness,
please write to:

If I see someone who's about to be hit by a car, I'm going to
yell out and try to help them. All I'm doing is trying to warn
people about the risks of stroke and what they can do about it.
Please join me in this effort."
